First Day of School --- Preschool that is.

We just signed Patrick up to finish this school year in preschool. He attends at one of our district's elementary schools. There are about 8 kids that are there for some kind of early intervention and 4 kids who are typical peers. Owen was in this program last year.

Here you can see that he was very excited to go.

And here is his teacher, Mrs. Bingham with his new friend, Molly.

We get to drop off and pick up curbside. Very nice. He'll attend for a full year next year.

Snow Day Survival

If you were to receive or give a Snow Day Survival Kit what would you include? I'm thinking activities for kids and chocolate for the moms. ;) What would help it be a fun day for everyone?

Fall and a Fall

After a nearly 5 month hiatus I thought that I'd post again.

Summer is over the Fall is here.

I am not going to try to "catch up" on my blog. I'm going to jump in right where we are.

School has already started. This is not a busy time in our home (compared to other times of the year).

Bradford has been out on his mission for 11 months.

Donovan is at BYU.

Spencer and Connor are conquering the High School and Ellery has the Middle school to himself.

Owen is in Kindergarten but it seems he never goes since it is every other day and we keep having days off. Last year he had preschool 4 mornings a week.

Patrick and Lillian hang out with Mom (and often Owen). Lillie is making good progress on getting potty trained.

That brings us to the second Fall.This an x-ray is of Donovan's right leg. He was playing pick up football on Saturday night. He made the catch, then dragged the guy who jumped on his back for a while before they collapsed in a heap and heard the pop. His foot was dislocated 90 degrees to the outside. He tore the tendon, broke the fibula and chipped the tibia. He had surgery on Sunday. He has a plate on the fibula and a screw between the tibia and the fibula. He'll be on crutches for 8 weeks.

So that is the big news of this week.

Summer plan?

Bradford's in Ghana

Well, we sent off our first missionary. Bradford left Thursday for Ghana.

It's very exciting. All missions are wonderful. The service you give, the growth you make, the testimonies grown, the life changes made, the truths learned and the covenants accepted. He will have challenges but we expect it to be a wonderful time for him.

I made a new blog for his mission. missionarychambers.blogspot.com I just put his addresses up there. I was having trouble up loading photos so that will have to wait until another day.

Primary Temple Trip

Our Primary had a great temple activity in September. It is the 10th anniversary of the Columbus Ohio Temple.

Here's the whole crowd, the Powell Ward Primary. Ellery and the other 11 year old boys were at a campout. Too bad They missed it this was a very special.

Patrick loves the temple. He was very excited to go and learn about the temple.

Here's my handsome Owen. He was so reverent.

We toured around the temple and learned new things on each side of the temple. We enjoyed the gardens and heard the former Temple President and his wife speak too.

Patrick's broken leg

Patrick broke his leg early in September. He and Owen were jump ing off the back porch. It didn't really slow him down too much.

He has this spiffy new cast for the next three weeks.

Little Zoo Trip

Patrick has been waiting and waiting for a trip to the zoo. Yesterday we went for a couple of hours.

We rode the train. They have never done that before. It was fun!

Missionary Man

Bradford got his mission call. He'll be serving in the Ghana Accra Mission. He reports to the MTC there on Oct. 23rd. We have a lot of shots and passport getting to do before that.

Yea, Bradford. We are excited for you and very proud that you are worthy and willing to serve in this fashion. We love you.

Lillian's Birthday

Lillie's Birthday is The 4th of July. We were in Lebanon, Indiana. Fletcher marched in the parade there with high school alumni band. We spent the evening with our friends the Hughes'. We had yummy food and a fun time visiting with them. Thanks for letting us come!

Spring Break

We went to Daniel Boone National Forest for Spring break. We stayed in a cabin. A fun time was had by all.

Just as we were getting packed for our Spring break trip Connor decided to put a bag on his head and be a monster. Owen got startled (or was playing along) and jumped and bonked his head on the wall. We thought that he would need some stitches so Mom and Lillie took Owen to an urgent care office conveniently located only 2 or 3 miles from our house.

This cool blue bandage was holding on a cotton ball with the numbing liquid on it. So no shot to numb it!! That was cool.

The was also a a yummy sucker to entertain us while we waited.

Christmas Eve

We had great time on Christmas Eve when my sister, Lydia and her family came to spend the evening with us.

We had a wonderful reenactment of the Nativity involving all of the cousins.

Please note the treasure chosen by a three year old wiseman. A yellow volkswagon and some other toys.

We had pizza for dinner and a fine time was had by all. Poor Uncle Eric then had to drive home while we went to bed.

Jungle Jim's International Market and the feast that followed

On January 2nd we went to Cincinnati to Jungle Jim's International Market. http://www.junglejims.com/

It was a family fieldtrip and our friend Kayla went with us.

We divided up into two teams and each team had a budget and a time limit in which they had to find food items from 5 continents. Then next night we had the international feast of the theings that we chose. We invited the rest of Kayla's family to join us too.

We had eel, cheese bread, curry from two different continents, pork tail (which flavored Pasta e fagioli),
Bangers, ostrich, pita bread and latin sodas.

Over all it was quite good. Next time you'll have to cook what you buy instead of leaving it to mom and dad to figure out what to do with your choices.

I happened to read about this challenge on January 1st. It was to take one picture a day for the whole year. It could serve several purposes. Hopefully it will improve my photography as well as help me blog and journal the year.

The Eagles have landed

I did not blog at all in December so it will take me a while to catch up.

On Tuesday Bradford and Donovan received their Eagle Scout Awards. It was very nice ceremony with all of the usual exchanging of pins.

Bradford gave his Mentor pin to our friend Karen Forgrave. Karen has been scouting for about 35 years. I have no idea how many scouts she's helped to get their Eagle. Many. Many.

We had cookies, hot chocolate and hot cider in the gym where there was a display table featuring their Eagle projects and merit badges. Grandma Hatch made each boy a scrapbook.

I couldn't resist the chance to have a picture taken of all my scouts. Aren't they cute?

Spencer is a Life Scout so he's next on the Eagle trail.

I'll try to blog about their projects a different day.

All before 10 am

Ellery was home sick yesterday. Today he had an orthodontist appointment at 10:10am. Since he missed yesterday I sent him to school on the bus even though he' only be there half and hour before I had to pick him up. All fine and good. I even started the dishes and laundry before I loaded Owen, Patrick, and Lillie up and headed to school on time. Owen and Patrick love to play on the bike racks. We even had time for that. But not to do it repeatedly as Owen would have liked. As I escorted him up to the school door Patrick fell down an bumped his forehead.

I went back to Patrick and picked him up in one arm and had Lillie in her carseat in the other hand whereupon I twisted my ankle and fell, scraping my knee. Someone was coming out of the school then and asked if I was ok.. I wasn't sure of the ankle status so I said I wasn't sure. She offered to carry Lillie I said ok and by then the school secretary had come out. So we all trouped into the office where they had the nurse's aid clean up my knee and give me a band aid. They offered ice for Patrick's head, which he won't keep on, and my knee and ankle which I didn't have time for.

Ellery came and we left for the Doctor's office- me wondering if 1/2 hour of school was worth all of that.

On the way to the office I clipped someone's newspaper box with my mirror breaking it. We were still on time for our appointment.

After the orthodontist we went back and found most of the broken bit. We are still missing a piece the size of a quarter.

While the docter poked around Ellery lost a tooth. But that would have been after 10 am.

So I decided that I wasn't up to taking everyone to the grocery store. Maybe I'll go after the big boys come home. Now it's nap time.

Patrick loves his new basketball hoop that he got for his birthday. He shoots and shoots. He is a real ball boy. He loves all balls and is very coordinated for someone so young.

Halloween pics

Here we have the Trick or Treaters. Ellery is Fear. His sign says, "Fear be afraid".

Patrick really liked his cowboy costume. The design made it hard to walk in though. His legs are the back legs of the horse. You have to hold up the head and front legs or you trip.

Lillie is a Scary Bat. This is at Trunk or Treat. She had a cold for Halloween and we didn't get any good pics of her that night. My friend Liz is holding Lillie. She held her almost all night which was very helpful as Fletcher wasn't there. Ellery had a different party to attend. Se we divided in order to conquer.

Aunt Lydia made this awesome Indian costume for her boys. This is Owen's second time wearing it. It looks better without the purple stripes he insisted on wearing on Halloween night.

The Purple and Black Striped shirt is his new favorite. It is one that Bradford wore. That is part of why Owen likes it. (Of course, everyone else wore it too.) We are lucky that the weather was relatively mild for both nights. Halloween was really quite warm. Still around 60 at Trick or Treat time.

For Halloween Donovan and Spencer dressed as Chipotle Burritos and got free burritos and then went to a party where I imagine they shed their emergency blanket wrappers.

All of these Fall photos have been shot from the car as we wait at the stop light taking Donovan to work. I love the Fall. I have always loved the Fall. During the last few years I have also come to more greatly appreciate the Spring - But I have always loved the Fall.

I was trying to use the Open Shade that I learned about on PioneerWoman.com to take some pictures the other night. I have a camera. I may as well learn to use it. I have cute kids that grow up way too fast but are still willing to pose for me, so here are a few pictures.

Connor has been running cross country this Fall. He is getting better and better. He had his best time at his last meet and was under 14 minutes for his 2 miles.

The other day we took Lillian to the doctor and while we waited the boys drove cars under the exam table. This is one of their favorite doctor's office games. Here their cars are side by side.

I think they had different destinations here.

This looks like a serious race. Or maybe just a serious racer.

Owen looks a little more like it's a ride in the park.

This looks like a happy driver.

Lillie was healthy and well. So, it's all good. Another wait over and done with.

Lillian is growing quickly. To celebrate the week she turned two months old she started sleeping through the night.

She also started to suck her thumb.

She can't quite figure out what to do with her fingers though.

Off to school

Fletcher took Bradford out to BYU last week. They stopped in Chicago on the way. They saw The Blue Man Group and went to the Sears Tower. I think they had fun.

When they got to Provo they opened a bank account, bought books, and got checked into the dorms. Off Into the big wide world.

Bradford is packing for BYU. We are also packing up his things from his bedroom. He also has a physical scheduled for today. He needs a meningitis shot.

We are hanging out and waiting for Micheal Phelps to win his eighth Gold Metal.
